Marijana’s recipe of the week
If you find yourself in a situation that no store is open or under curfew and you are left without any bread in the house, but you need it fast, here is a quick and tasty solution with ingredients you should always have in your kitchen cabinet.
Tortillas
* 3 & 1/2 cups of plain all-purpose flour (1 cup volume = approx. 150 ml)
* 1 cup of warm water
* 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
* 1 teaspoon of salt
* 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
Mix flour and baking powder with a mixing spoon, add oil and water with salt already dissolved in it and stir all together until it is evident you need to use your hands. Form a smooth dough with your hands and then cut it in halves until you get 8 pieces. Roll out the dough evenly with a rolling pin and put it on a hot non-stick pancake skillet (you can use any skillet actually, but if non-stick then use a bit of oil or butter). Fry it approximately 20 sec on both sides (depending on the temperature you’ve chosen on your stove) and then repeat the process for the rest of the dough.
Tip: to ensure tortillas stay warm and elastic, keep them between two plates while frying, so when all is finished, flip the plates over, so the first tortilla done is on the top.
If you want to drink something quite different from a regular beer or wine during our Aperitivo on Fridays, I recommend a two-ingredient cocktail, especially for those of you who enjoy the tastes of anise or cough syrup
Mix together a cold Ivi commercial drink (peach) with 4 tablespoons of Ouzo, pour it in a nice glass and enjoy.
